A Busy Mom’s Prayer

I feel tired… A LOT. How about you? Actually, I think “exhausted” is a better word. Three kids (whom I home-school part-time, a full-time job that forces me from sleep at 2 AM, dance, basketball, house cleaning, dinner, laundry, bills, church and charity events, speaking engagements, demands of marriage and family… the list seems endless. It all adds up quickly into spinning plates I hope to not drop.

I wrote this poem a few years ago. It’s become a prayer, of sorts, for me:

A Busy Mom’s Prayer

I cannot shut my mind off.
My thoughts are swirling ‘round.
Inside my head the tasks add up,
Overwhelming, like I’ve drowned.

I need to fall asleep now,
But my clock is glowing bright,
Like a constant, rude reminder
Of the ever-shrinking night.

In just a few short hours,
My busy day awaits:
Work and meals and kids to school,
A constant harried state.

Please help me God. Please calm my nerves.
Bring sleep upon my soul.
Remove the stress from my full plate.
Keep life from taking its toll.
